More info

The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, are a natural phenomenon that has captivated the hearts and imaginations of people for centuries. In Lofoten, a stunning archipelago located in the northern part of Norway, the Northern Lights are a sight to behold. With its unique geography, clear skies, and minimal light pollution, Lofoten is one of the best places in the world to witness this mesmerizing light show.

The Northern Lights are caused by the interaction of charged particles from the sun with the Earth’s magnetic field. This creates a dazzling display of colors that dance across the night sky. In Lofoten, the best time to see the Northern Lights is from September to April, when the nights are longer and darker. The lights can be seen from various locations across the islands, but for the best experience, it’s recommended to head away from the towns and villages to avoid light pollution.

Lofoten’s unique landscape, with its towering mountains, deep fjords, and picturesque fishing villages, provides a stunning backdrop for the Northern Lights. The reflection of the lights on the water adds an extra layer of beauty to the experience. Whether you’re a professional photographer or just someone who appreciates the beauty of nature, the Northern Lights in Lofoten are a must-see.

Our guide, Odd-Petter Tanke Jensen, has spent his life exploring the natural beauty of Lofoten and has a deep understanding of the best places and times to see the Northern Lights.
